Dacă ai avea o bancă, care ţi-ar credita contul în fiecare dimineaţă cu 86.400 dolari, fără posibilitatea de a-i transfera pentru ziua următoare – ce ai face? Ei bine, ai un astfel de cont…timpul.

În fiecare dimineaţă primeşti 86.400 de secunde. În fiecare seară se consideră „pierdută” fiecare secundă pe care nu ai reuşit să o utilizezi în scopuri bune. Nu poţi transfera în alte conturi, şi nu se poate face nici descoperire de cont. Nu poţi să păstrezi, să economiseşti, să strângi, să împrumuţi şi să investeşti. Poţi doar să foloseşti timpul.

 Iată o poveste care evidențiază asta:

Arthur Berry, a fost descris de Time ca fiind „cel mai şmecher hoţ din Est”, cu siguranţă unul din cei mai faimoşi hoţi de bijuterii din toate timpurile. În anii de activitate, a comis mau mult de 150 de jafuri şi a furat bijuterii cu o valoare totală între 5 şi 10 milioane de dolari. Rareori fura de la cineva care nu făcea parte din elita societăţii şi de multe ori purta smoching în timp ce îşi făcea treaba. O dată sau de două ori, când a fost surprins chiar în flagrant de către victime, le-a fermecat pe acestea şi a scăpat fără să fie reclamat la poliţie.

Ca şi majoritatea persoanelor implicate în hoţii, până la urmă a fost prins, condamnat şi a ispăşit o pedeapsă de 25 de ani în penitenciar. După eliberare, a lucrat ca şi barman la un restaurant de pe marginea drumului de pe Coasta de Est, pentru un salariu de 50 de dolari pe săptămână.

Un reporter l-a găsit, şi l-a intervievat despre viaţa lui. După ce a povestit despre episoadele palpitante ale vieţii lui, a terminat interviul cu o concluzie:

–          Nu sunt foarte bun la morală. Dar la începutul vieţii mele am fost inteligent şi priceput, şi

m-am înţeles bine cu oamenii. Cred că aş fi putut să fac ceva cu viaţa mea, dar n-am făcut-o. Aşa că, în momentul în care vei scrie povestea vieţii mele, când vei scrie despre jafurile pe care le-am comis, să nu uiţi să aminteşti de cel mai mare dintre ele… Nu relata doar că l-am jefuit pe Jesse Livermore, baronul de pe Wall Street sau pe vărul regelui Angliei. Spune şi că Arthur Berry la jefuit pe Arthur Berry.

 Aici sunt şase adevăruri straşnice despre timp:

 Primul: Nimeni nu poate să gestioneze timpul. Însă poţi să gestionezi acele situaţii care îţi ocupă timpul.

Al doilea: Timpul este scump. Prin fapte, asta arată cam aşa: 80% din ziua noastră  o petrecem cu activităţi şi cu oameni care contribuie la 20% din rezultatele noastre.

Al treilea: Timpul este perisabil. Nu poate fi salvat pentru a fi folosit mai târziu.

Al patrulea: Timpul este măsurabil. Toţi beneficiem de aceeaşi cantitate de timp… cerşetor sau rege. Nu e important cât timp ai, important e cum îl foloseşti.

Al cincilea: Timpul este de neînlocuit. Timpul trecut nu poate fi adus înapoi.

Al şaselea: Timpul este o prioritate. Ai timp destul pentru orice pe lumea asta, atâta timp cât se situează la începutul listei tale de priorităţi.

First Thing Every Morning

 If you had a bank that credited your account each morning with $86,400 – with no balance carried from day to day – what would you do? Well, you do have such a bank…time.

Every morning it credits you with 86,400 seconds. Every night it rules off as “lost” whatever you have failed to use toward good purposes. It carries over no balances and allows no overdrafts.

You can’t hoard it, save it, store it, loan it or invest it. You can only use it – time.

Here’s a story that drives the point home:

Arthur Berry was described by Time as “the slickest second-story man in the East,” truly one of the most famous jewel thieves of all times. In his years of crime, he committed as many as 150 burglaries and stole jewels valued between $5 and $10 million. He seldom robbed from anyone not listed in the Social Register and often did his work in a tuxedo. On an occasion or two, when caught in the act of a crime by a victim, he charmed his way out of being reported to the police.

Like most people who engage in a life of crime, he was eventually caught, convicted and served 25 years in prison for his crimes. Following his release, he worked as a counterman in a roadside restaurant on the East Coast for $50 a week.

A newspaper reporter found him and interviewed him about his life. After telling about the thrilling episodes of his life he came to the conclusion of the interview saying, “I am not good at morals. But early in my life I was intelligent and clever, and I got along well with people. I think I could have made something of my life, but I didn’t. So when you write the story of my life, when you tell people about all the burglaries, don’t leave out the biggest one of all… Don’t just tell them I robbed Jesse Livermore, the Wall Street baron or the cousin of the king of England. You tell them Arthur Berry robbed Arthur Berry.”

 Here are six terrific truths about time:

First: Nobody can manage time. But you can manage those things that take up your time.

Second: Time is expensive. As a matter of fact, 80 percent of our day is spent on those things or those people that only bring us 20 percent of our results.

Third: Time is perishable. It cannot be saved for later use.

Fourth: Time is measurable. Everybody has the same amount of time…pauper or king. It is not how much time you have; it is how much you use.

Fifth: Time is irreplaceable. We never make back time once it is gone.

Sixth: Time is a priority. You have enough time for anything in the world, so long as it ranks high enough among your priorities.
